Case Study

Skating

High school physical education aims to expose students to a wide variety of physical activities they will be able to participate in throughout their lifetime. Despite living in cold temperatures for over 5 months a year, over 30% of West Fargo Public School High School students have never experienced ice skating. With the grant awarded by the West Fargo Area Education Foundation (WFAEF), the West Fargo High School and Sheyenne High School physical education departments were able to collaborate in the expansion of their existing, but limited, fleet of ice skates to ensure appropriate skate sizing for all students. Teaching students to ice skate with appropriately sized skates provides students the knowledge, practice and confidence to be physically active in our community while aligning with the physical education standards and the district’s profile of a graduate goals. By supporting this project, the WFEAF has helped to ensure all students at in high school have the opportunity to experience ice skating as a lifetime outdoor pursuit and will be impacting all students of West Fargo Public Schools for years to come!
